Emily Apgar is a licensed social worker with a master’s of social work from Marywood University. She is working toward clinical licensure as an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

Emily joined MMG from Pittsburgh, with previous experiences as an emergency department and inpatient social worker in a hospital setting. She has been given a broad experience in labor/delivery, trauma, oncology, and hospice-related counseling, as well as prompting extensive bereavement and grief work to support families struggling through death and dying processes.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Emily aims to create an open and safe space for clients to explore their sexual/queer identities. Her practice also focuses on anxiety and depression and addressing issues of domestic and sexual violence and trauma.

Emily also serves couples navigating relationship challenges using a strengths-based approach focused on resiliency. An integrative model allows her to explore each couple’s unique situation through many lenses and select the best interventions to address specific concerns.

Sessions with Emily are nurturing and nonjudgmental, using an integrative approach of person-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused therapies — including DBT, trauma-informed, and crisis intervention methods. As a therapist, Emily is fiercely dedicated to her client’s best interests, to empower and support them through their unique therapy journey.
